Intern at the embassy

  • Compensation of DKK 5,000 per month

Internship in the foreign service

  • An internship in the Danish foreign service offers plenty of challenges and gives you the opportunity to gain insight into Danish diplomacy and test your skills in an international environment. As an intern, you will form an integral part of the department/team you are assigned to, and you will be assigned a supervisor in the department/team. The specific tasks that you will have to carry out vary depending on which department/team you are assigned to.

The Embassy in Jakarta is looking for 2 interns in the following areas for the period 1 February 2025 to 31 July 2025

  • Communication and public diplomacy
  • Food and agriculture

Communication and public diplomacy

  • As a Communications and public diplomacy intern, you will be assigned to the embassy’s political department, which is also responsible for development aid, culture and public diplomacy, as well as the embassy’s cooperation with authorities within the maritime, energy and environment sectors.
  • As an intern, you will, among other things, had to help manage the embassy’s social media, website and associated communication strategies, follow up on Indonesian foreign and domestic policy and contribute to conducting delegation visits and public diplomacy events.

Examples of tasks:

  • Management of the embassy’s social media platforms as well as content production
  • Contribute to the implementation of public diplomacy, e.g. within culture and education
  • Contribute to the preparation of reports and reports on Indonesian foreign and domestic policy and developments in ASEAN
  • Contribute to the implementation of activities within the embassy’s authority cooperation (maritime, energy and environment) and development cooperation 
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of public events, workshops, seminars and delegation visits
  • Participation in meetings, public conferences and events as well as reporting
  • Other ad hoc tasks related to the embassy’s activities across the board

Food and agriculture :

  • The embassy manages a Strategic Sector Cooperation (SSC) on agriculture, which is implemented by the Danish Food and Food Administration and the Indonesian government. The collaboration’s main focus is on food production and efficiency, organic dairy, food loss and food waste.
  • As an intern in food and agriculture, you will support the day-to-day management of the SSC program, which involves participation in meetings with ministries, network meetings, progress reporting and communication with relevant Danish authorities and private stakeholders. In addition, you will also contribute to the embassy’s commercial activities such as market research, meetings and organization of business delegations. You will also be involved in the strategic development of the sector and the cooperation with Indonesia, where you will work closely with our government consultant.

Examples of tasks:

  • Prepare presentations and organize delegation/company visits
  • Plan and organize diplomacy events
  • Updating social media with the relevant activities of the team
  • Preparation of written reports on Indonesia’s policy in food and agriculture, market research, etc.
  • Other ad hoc tasks

Duration and application deadlines

  • We are looking for interns twice a year and the internship is six months.

Spring team: 1 February – 31 July

  • The deadline for applications for this team is 1 September of the previous year

Autumn team: 1 August – 31 January

  • The application deadline for this team is March 1

Requirements :

  • You must be a student and enrolled in a higher education institution at bachelor’s or master’s level.
  • If you are a foreign citizen, you must have lived in Denmark for at least 3 years, have permanent residence in Denmark at the time of application and be enrolled in a study at a higher education institution in Denmark during the entire internship.
  • It is a condition that you can be security cleared by the Danish authorities and that you maintain your security clearance throughout the internship. References will be obtained in connection with the security clearance.
  • Please note that you can only have one internship in the Danish foreign service.

Qualifications :

  • We are looking for students with strong analytical skills, drive and great commitment, as well as a curious, creative, open and positive approach to problem solving. You are welcome to provide good examples of these qualifications in your application. In addition, we expect you to have good knowledge of Danish and English as well as knowledge of the MS Office Package (PowerPoint, Excel & Word).
  • The stay must contribute to your education, and will take place under the guidance of an academic employee in the department. We recommend that before you apply for an internship, you investigate what academic requirements your educational institution sets for you in connection with an internship.

Holidays and working hours 

  • Working hours are an average of 37 hours per week (including lunch break). You earn 2.08 holiday days per month’s internship corresponding to 12.5 days during your 6-month internship. If your study requires you to write a larger academic assignment in connection with your internship, you will also be able to get writing-free within a maximum of 10 days, depending on the scope and complexity of the assignment.

Housing

  • You are responsible for finding housing yourself and paying all associated costs.

Reimbursement of certain expenses :

  • The internship is unpaid, but a compensation of DKK 5,000 per month to cover expenses for accommodation, transport, insurance and other expenses linked to the internship.
  • Most interns will also have the opportunity to include their SU, but you should seek to clarify this yourself with the Board of Higher Education.
