Public Engagement Coordinator (Public Engagement Assistant)

- Work Schedule: Full-time – 40 hours/week
Duties :
- The Public Engagement Coordinator advises the Consulate’s Public Diplomacy (PD) engagement with the Emerging Voices (EV) audience sector, primarily youth, minorities, and others who are able to influence Indonesian attitudes toward the United States using new, often digital, communication networks rather than prominent protocol positions or established institutions; and the Established Opinion Leaders (EOL) audience sector, including influential individuals and institutions such as think tanks, syndicates, labor unions, professional associations, civil society organizations, prominent academics, and professional training institutions. Designs and recommends PD strategies to connect with target audiences to build and sustain productive dialogue and promote an understanding of and support for U.S. policy. Plans, develops, coordinates, oversees, and evaluates projects and initiatives to engage EV and EOL audiences on key foreign policy and bilateral issues, promote an understanding of U.S. policy, and build long-term relationships with these audiences.
The overview of the position’s major duties and responsibilities are:

- Administrative Functions (Budgeting and Financial Resources; Grants)
Qualifications and Evaluations
Requirements:
All selected candidates must be able to obtain and hold a:
- Public Trust – Background Investigation security clearance.
- All selected candidates will be subject to a background investigation and may be subject to a pre-employment medical exam.
- Selected candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time (4 weeks) upon receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.
Education Requirements:
- A university degree in Political Science, Communication, International Relations, English, or local equivalent is required.

Qualifications:
Experience:
- At least three years of progressively responsible experience in a multilingual, multicultural, multinational, academic, non-governmental organization (NGO), think tank, or governmental work environment is required, with communications, project management, or education duties as a significant part of the job.
Language:
- Fluent speaking/reading/writing English is required. Fluent speaking/reading/writing Indonesian is required. This may be tested.

Job Knowledge:
- Knowledge of marketing techniques, market analysis and analytics, and customer service standards in the United States and Indonesia; knowledge of trends in audience engagement; an understanding of communications in the region and the international information environment as they affect Indonesia; and comprehensive knowledge of the policy focus and positions of EV and EOL institutions and experts are all required.
Skills And Abilities:
Analytic Skills:
- Must have strong analytic skills. Must be able to identify, analyze, predict, and assess EV and EOL audience attitudes and evaluate the impact of projects and modify approaches for greatest outcomes. Must be able to perceive the emergence of new influencers and adjust operations and programming accordingly.
Communication Interpersonal Skills:
- Must have excellent customer relations, interpersonal, and cross-cultural communication skills and be able to identify and engage key figures critical to shaping local public opinion. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, including for public speaking, interviewing for evaluation purposes, writing reports, and contributing materials for publication in both English and Indonesian. Must be able to tailor communications to fit formal and informal situations and different ethnic, religious, and linguistic cultures. Must be able to brief on a variety of issues and interpret between English and Indonesian for public programs.
Management Skills:
- Strong project management skills are required, including the ability to develop and oversee project budgets and to organize, run, and present projects such as seminars, digital video conferences, panel discussions, lectures, and professional and academic programs. Must be able to negotiate agreements with partner institutions and manage their fulfillment.
Technical Skills:
- Good keyboarding and data entry skills and excellent familiarity with electronic discovery tools, in particular the internet, and standard information retrieval practices and procedures are required. Thorough, detailed knowledge of various computer software programs, specifically Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel is required. Knowledge of and the ability to use social media and mobile platforms and basic photo and video skills are required. Must have good numerical skills to be able to develop and manage project and grant budgets.
